Getting Here

We are on the corner of Main and Harrison, in the middle of downtown. If you are coming in on State Road 5, you will see the building before you find the turn. It is the big one.

There is parking at the building and several more lots within a block. Most of downtown Shipshewana is walkable once you have left the car somewhere, and plenty of people park once and spend the day.

If you are searching for us on your phone, use 255 East Main Street. A few listings still show an old address for the building.

What to Expect

Twenty shops across four floors, and no two of them alike. There are quilting fabrics and Amish furniture, pretzels made from a family recipe since 1989, kitchen cabinets, hand decorated clothing, puzzles, candy by the pound, coffee roasted here in the building, leather goods, toys, and a candle room. You can get lunch here. You can get a cup of coffee and sit down. Most people who plan on an hour end up staying longer than that.

In the middle of it all is a Douglas fir, fifty six feet of it, three hundred and seventy years old, with the staircase built around it. It is not holding up the building. People ask.

On the top floor there is a 1906 Dentzel carousel with hand carved farm animals, horses and cows and chickens and dogs, and a team of work horses turning soil for a farmer. Grown adults ride it. Nobody minds.

Good to Know

We are closed on Sunday. A lot of Shipshewana is. If Sunday is the only day you can come, call ahead and check what is open before you make the drive.

Restrooms are on Level 3 and the Lower Level.

Food is here. JoJo’s Pretzels and Kitchen Cupboard Coffee House are on the Main Level. Millie’s Market Cafe and Aunt Millie’s Candy and Nut Shop are on Level 3.

Getting between floors. Two elevators, one on each side of the building. Every floor is reachable, the carousel on Level 3 included. There are benches on every floor, which is on purpose.

While You Are in Town

You are a short walk from most of downtown. The Pumpkinvine Trail head is a couple of blocks over. There are Walldog murals on several buildings around town, painted large on the brick. Buggy rides run downtown, and there are hitching posts on the streets because they are used.

The Shipshewana Historical Society is nearby if you want more of the story than our history page holds. The Blue Gate Bakery and the Blue Gate Restaurant and Theater are a short walk. The Town Hall Wolfe Building is worth a look, and the Blessing Quilt hangs inside it.
